Working as part of the Front-line IT Services Team, the Senior IT Technician will provide friendly and effective first and second line support to a range of academics, students and other members of staff in the City Centre institutions.

Responsible for resolving a broad range of service requests relating to University's IT infrastructure, you will ensure that end-user calls, emails or raised tickets are fulfilled or escalated as required. A key part of your role (and the work of the team) will be to identify problems in service provision and assist in the implementation of effective fixes. Using your previous experience in an IT related role, you will be responsible for the installation and removal of software, testing, correcting malfunctions and identifying and resolving application and network issues.

To excel in this fast paced and varied role, you will join us with:

  • A HND/HNC level qualification / level 4/5 vocational qualification or equivalent experience.
  • A good, up to date, working knowledge of current computer hardware and software including the support and management of desktop systems operating in a client server environment.
  • Experience of Microsoft Server Administration: Active Directory Users and Computers, Group Policy, DHCP, DNS, Printer Management.
  • A good working knowledge of a second operating system (e.g. Mac OS X or Linux).
  • Experience of scripting and coding in at least one language (e.g. PowerShell, Python, PHP etc.)
  • Be able to empathise with users and handle potentially difficult or stressful situations diplomatically and efficiently.
  • Be able to communicate clearly on a wide range of technical issues with people at all levels and enjoy helping people with their problem or request.
  • Experience of working in a team.
