Job Purpose

Based in the USA, this role sits within the recruitment team, focused on student recruitment from North America.  As a Senior International Officer (SIO) you will report directly to the Country Manager USA and under the strategic direction of the International Recruitment Manager, North America, Europe & Central Asia (IRM). You will liaise with the Director and Deputy Director of Recruitment and International Relations, and wider team of IRMs and SIOs to support the achievement of the international ambitions as outlined in the Global Glasgow 2025 and associated Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Specifically, the role will lead on student recruitment, with the key objective to increase the numbers of full-time undergraduate and postgraduate international students from a named region of the USA - either West or Midwest - to the University of Glasgow. You will have a focus on lead generation, applicant nurture and support. Furthermore, you will also prioritise targeted stakeholder engagement from a defined geographical region within North America.

NOTE: The regional recruitment breakdown will cover either the West, (Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming.) or Midwest (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin.) and the role will be based remotely out of the relevant region.

The post holder will be required to visit the University twice per calendar year. The post holder may be asked to attend international recruitment events in other countries, if required.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. To lead on the strategic development and operational management of Glasgow’s promotional and student recruitment activities in a region of the USA (West or Midwest), contributing to overall institutional targets. Lead on the production and implementation of regional strategic recruitment plans for the region. By horizon scanning, competitor analysis and monitoring of market intelligence, contribute to market assessments and produce other timely marketing reports when requested.

2. Develop and implement a Recruitment Strategy for your region in the USA including detailed analysis of student numbers by level of study with specified targets broken down to priority States and level of study.

3. Regular travel to represent the University at education fairs and other recruitment events to support lead generation.  This will include giving presentations to different stakeholder groups.  In addition the post-holder will be expected to coordinate visits to the assigned region by other members of University of Glasgow staff, producing timely and comprehensive reports following visits.

4. To liaise with key partners, including for example, the University of Glasgow’s study abroad network, high school counsellors and alumni networks to support recruitment activities.

5. To initiate and develop relationships/agreements in-country with key government ministries (both in-country and the UK), organisations and high-level sponsorship bodies, negotiating appropriate financial packages and, where necessary, ensuring reporting requirements are met.

6. Work with colleagues across External Relations to improve information and the service provided to international applicants and to increase the uptake of offers for all levels of study, by planning and implementing tailored conversion strategies.

7. Manage a dedicated consumable budget for an agreed region in the USA, providing monthly status reports, ensuring that all expenditure is in line with agreed University policies and procedures.  This should include consideration of the return on investment for the agreed regional spend.

8. Provide strategic statistical and trend analysis in relation to market responsibilities and where necessary, recommend changes to policies, and inputting into e.g. admissions criteria and the pricing strategy.

9. Work with the Dean for Regional Engagement, IRM and Country Manager to recommend, develop and manage new institutional partnerships, liaising with existing partners, embassies, industry and sponsorship bodies where applicable.

10. In conjunction with the International Recruitment Manager, assist with the production of North American marketing materials in a timely manner – this includes print and digital collateral.  .

11. To represent the University and External Relations on professional groups, forums and committees as required.

12. Identify high quality applicants for recommendation for scholarships.

13. Support with International Summer School recruitment, with focus on marketing and conversion.

14. Through regular communications, advise the University Colleges on opportunities for each College for recruitment and partnership development including working closely with the International Dean for Global Engagement for the Americas and assisting them where necessary.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential:

A1 Degree level education or postgraduate/professional qualification/Higher degree or relevant experience

A2 Up to date knowledge of UK and USA Higher Education

A3 Some knowledge and understanding of the Scottish Higher Education system and specifically the undergraduate application systems (e.g. UCAS).

A4 Some knowledge of broader external market environment in the context of international higher education.

Desirable:

B1 Possess an understanding of the University of Glasgow

Knowledge of institutional and College strategic priorities, alongside iin-depth knowledge of the University’s degree programmes and research strengths

Experience  

Essential:

E1 Relevant broad professional /management experience in similar or related role with degree, or without a degree, evidence of progression and development gained through more extensive relevant experience.

E2 Experience in a Higher Educational student recruitment/marketing office

E3 Experience of market development and relationship management

E4 Substantial experience of event attendance and presenting to an audience

E5 Experience of budget management

E6 Experience of leading or initiating projects with measurable outcomes and implications across wider teams.

Desirable:

F1 Experience of Higher Education regional/remote student recruitment/marketing

F2 Experience of cross-cultural business transactions

F3 Overseas work experience

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 7, $61,109 - $65,590 per annum.

This post is full time (35 hours per week) and open ended (permanent).
