Creative Media, Department of External Relations

Location: University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham UK 

Full time starting salary is normally in the range £31,406 to £40,927, with potential progression once in post to £43,434

Overview

We deliver high quality, innovative solutions across creative, design, digital, media and in print.

This role is key to the agency’s success, leading the development and creation of multi-media creative ideas across a variety of disciplines with a specialism in Digital to grow our digital offering.

Summary of Role

As a Senior Digital Content Producer you will strategically lead and advance the agency’s digital offering - creating the very best digital solutions to help solve client challenges.

You will have significant experience in digital to identify new innovation and trends to deliver the best digital experiences from identifying and implementing digital technology and processes to concepting and producing digital content.   

You will be passionate about creative, digital and technology, keep abreast of the latest innovations and trends, continuously developing your skillset, sharing knowledge and pro-actively putting forward ideas to support clients’ challenges and drive business growth.

Main Duties

Driving growth

1.    Lead the proactive identification, development and introduction of integrated digital  solutions including new technology, equipment and production processes to deliver digital trading growth. 
2.    Lead business case development to secure funding as required. 
3.    Manage the digital budget and deliver financial trading targets as agreed. 
4.    Through regular horizon scanning and networking proactively stay abreast of the latest emerging digital trends and innovations, sharing knowledge and turning these into recommendations which can be pitched to clients, working with the Head of Creative and Head of Account Management.
5.    Acting as Creative Media’s advocate and thought leader for technology and innovation.

Content production

1.    Strategic planning across all digital production to ensure all projects are delivered efficiently and effectively. 
2.    Lead the sourcing and deployment of external suppliers. 
3.    Will use strategic vision to deliver original, highly innovative digital projects from ideation to delivery to meet client briefs within budget.  This will include;
•    effectively interpreting briefs, researching audiences and developing solutions
•    strong idea generation from scamps through to concept development and visual mock-ups
•    storyboard and develop outline scripts ideas
•    write and edit copy
4.    Lead on all areas of digital, including scoping projects, equipment, software and feeding into the review and enhancement of production and working processes.
5.    Lead digital content creation including interactive content, XR, animation, 3D,  motion and social media  for high profile, strategic projects and developing pitch presentations for new business. 
6.    Lead and manage a team of content producers and oversee the team’s creative projects from ideation to delivery.
7.    Recommending and implementing innovative digital solutions to meet client briefs including delivering the project yourself, working with the in-house team or selecting the right partner to work with.
8.    As a senior technical expert you will manage and advise on all areas of digital, including scoping projects, equipment, software and feeding into the review and enhancement production and working processes.
9.    Ensure all work across the team is high quality, accurate final files to print and digital specifications across the team, including checking proofs, backing up  and  archiving and filing to the server on a daily basis.
10.    The role is a task and project driven role that may require work outside of core hours and is driven by schedules and by delivery deadlines. The post holder may therefore be required to work both flexible and extended hours to deliver.

Team/Relationships/Communication

1.    Lead the training and development of the in house team to develop digital and animation, skills and lead the continual development and enhancement of the team’s digital expertise, including introducing new technologies and knowledge sharing.  
2.    Manage individual and team performance through 1:1’s, PDR process, team meetings
3.    Confidently and proactively communicate, sell ideas to clients and internal teams, active participation in briefing and feedback meetings, leading on advising from a digital perspective.
4.    Work closely with and support the Account Management team and content production team and attend client meetings to review client briefs, develop ideas and assess or advise on project resource and requirements.
5.    Respond to feedback in an appropriate manner, listening and providing advice.
6.    Ensure content is accessible to all end users and the regulatory and legal requirements when using digital assets such as copyright, intellectual property rights, web accessibility, GDPR and all content adheres to University brand guidelines.
7.    Support and contribute to developing the agencies skillset and reputation, including sharing knowledge on digital production, regular contributing to blogs etc.
8.    Act as a role model to other members of the team in championing External Relations values and behaviours.
9.    Lead the communication of trends and business opportunities with the internal team.
10.    Identify opportunities for Creative Media to support University objectives by seeking and building relationships with staff across the University as well as external contacts and professional networks.
11.    Develop and maintain strong relationships with the wider University, including IT Services and Digital Channel Management Team.
12.    Proactively seeks opportunities for Creative Media to support University objectives by building relationships with staff across the University as well as external contacts and professional networks.
13.    Any other duties as required by the Director of Creative Media/Head of Creative.

Person Specification

Level of knowledge and/or educational qualifications required:

•    A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject area, plus significant relevant workplace experience in digital  
•    In-depth up to date specialist expertise using and implementing digital technologies, systems,  UX/UI, app development, XR, interactive content, front end development, solutions, website interface design, usability, HTML, CSS, Dreamweaver 
•    High level experience in using Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere Pro,  Html 5, presentation software, Microsoft PowerPoint
•    Advanced skills to be able to produce digital content, animations (e.g. motion graphics, 2d character rigging and animation), moderate skills to be able to produce films (e.g. talking heads), social media videos and photography 
•    Good understanding of web content accessibility guidelines (WCAG) accessibility regulations and creating with accessibility in mind so that all online content meets or exceeds AA legal accessibility guidelines 
•    Significant project management and budget management experience 
•    Experience in delivering financial targets
•    Back-end and design skills are desirable

Skills/Attributes required:

•    Substantial  proven experience in industry, agency experience is essential 
•    A passion for creating content for digital and creative media and continuously developing own knowledge and skillset
•    Team management experience 
•    Confident communicator, able to clearly convey complex ideas or technical details and sell them to the client and internally
•    Significant knowledge of digital production processes, including technical knowledge and user experience
•    Technical expertise in regards to digital  
•    Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects and keep calm and focused under pressure 
•    Exceptional attention to detail, maintaining high standards and brand consistency
•    Good time management, taking projects from concept through to delivery, on budget and to deadline
•    Pro-active – researching new services/new ways of doing things and proven experience of implementing them
•    Excellent interpersonal skills and a ‘can-do’ problem solving attitude  to build and maintain positive relationships 
•    Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure in day to day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly
