The Department of Psychiatry has a proud history over 50 years, making a real difference to the lives of people with mental illness through improved understanding of the causes of illness, the potential for prevention and for developing better treatments. We are now looking to recruit a clinical academic psychiatrist to join our team and to develop their career with us. This is a new post that will be part-funded by the NIHR Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centre and is open to clinicians from any psychiatric specialty and undertaking research in any area that further advances knowledge and improves outcomes for those with mental illness. The post is full time and is based in the Department of Psychiatry at the Warneford Hospital.
You will be a recognised international clinical academic who will provide intellectual leadership in psychiatry. You will have established the strategic direction of major research programmes. In addition, the post-holder will contribute more broadly to research both at an international level and across the Medical Sciences Division.
You will have a senior leadership role within the NIHR Oxford Health Biomedical Research Centre. There is an expectation, after a period of time working alongside the current Director Professor John Geddes, that the postholder will take over the Directorship of the BRC. You will contribute to the Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes and to postgraduate clinical training, and collaborate with other researchers and colleagues in the University.
Office accommodation and full University IT support will be provided in the Department of Psychiatry. Administrative assistance will be provided to support academic responsibilities.
For an informal discussion, please contact Professor Belinda Lennox ([email protected] )or telephone: +44 (0) 1865 618202.
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement.
The closing date for applications is 12 noon on 8th January – Interviews will be held in late January 2024
Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in academic posts in Oxford.
