The School of Engineering is seeking to appoint a Senior Civil Engineering Technician to provide technical support and expertise in order to facilitate the smooth running of teaching and research requirements within Civil Engineering and associated laboratories.
You will design and construct test rigs as required, using the overhead crane following relevant safe systems of work and perform materials testing and demonstrate materials testing equipment to students and others. You will also embark on training in new technologies as they arise and enlarge personal skill sets to reflect the civil and mechanical technical needs of the School.
You will be educated at Grades A – C in GCSE Maths, English and Science and will hold (or be working towards completion in 6 months) a HNC in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification.
You will have strong time management and organisational skills, with a willingness to adapt and be flexible. Whilst you will not manage a budget, a high level of financial and budget awareness is required as you will be required to identify and obtain quotations for new equipment and raise orders.
You will need to evidence excellent interpersonal skills with relevant experience of working independently and as part of a team. This role provides day-to-day supervision of apprentices and technicians, and you should be able to demonstrate strong people skills, preferably with previous supervisory experience.
The University aims to promote work life balance for all employees and the School of Engineering will consider a range of possible flexible working arrangements in order to recruit the best candidate.
