Senior Bioinformatician - Cellular Operations

Updated: 26 days ago
Location: Cambridge, ENGLAND

A new opportunity for a talented Senior Bioinformation to join the Cellular Operations (CellOps) division as part of the Gene Editing team has arisen.

Do you have a background in a Computational Biology or Bioinformatic discipline? If yes this could be the role for you.

About the role:

Whilst this role sits within the Gene Editing team, our strong emphasis on open science and collaboration means that you will be working closely with the wider CellOps division and our Faculty partners. This involves working on a diverse set of projects with complex computational needs, including cell line engineering, saturation genome editing, single-cell CRISPR sequencing and multi-omics data analysis. It also provides an exciting opportunity to develop new pipelines and ad-hoc bioinformatic solutions to analyse complex datasets and drive innovation in this field.

You will work closely with our teams’ scientists to translate analytical requirements into processes or pipelines that provide the agreed function.

You will also oversee the running, maintenance and extension of these pipelines and where necessary provide training and support on their usage.

Additional collaborations with other computational groups at the Wellcome Sanger Institute will also be necessary for the integration of analysis pipelines across Cellular Operations, Scientific Operations and Faculty groups.

About You:

  • You will thrive in collaborative and cross-functional teams
  • You have strong communication skills, allowing you to work effectively with colleagues from other disciplines and offer clear advice on computational problems.
  • You will be highly motivated to stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and take on challenging problems, to ensure that we continue to support cutting-edge research.
  • You will have a real enthusiasm for genomic research and enjoy pro-actively finding solutions to complex problems.

About us:

We facilitate the Wellcome Sanger Institute’s world leading genomic research by providing the expertise and resources required to deliver advanced genome engineering projects, that enable faculty researchers to focus on their scientific objectives.

The two main services that we provide are: cellular engineering, using bespoke gene editing approaches to generate novel cell lines, and custom vector construction, providing high quality gene delivery and editing tools. As a Senior Bioinformation within the team, you will provide the key computational support needed to deliver these services.

Due to Covid 19, the Wellcome Genome Campus closed for all but essential functions and facilities. As we begin restarting our science, we have implemented measures to support our staff on site including one way systems, enhanced cleaning and increased facilities for handwashing. You can learn more about our campus and our return to research here . This role will require working on site and full details of working on site can be discussed during the interview stage.

Interviews will be taking place virtually and the successful candidate should expect to be fully supported through this.
