About the opportunity

The School of Health Sciences is the largest health sciences school in Australia consisting of seven disciplines. The School provides professional preparation programs for a comprehensive range of health science professionals, as well as general degrees in health science. The School enjoys a strong and dynamic research culture resulting from its commitment to achieving and sustaining research excellence in areas of established and emerging research strengths. The School has approximately 200 academic staff, 100 professional staff and 4,500 students.

We are seeking a Senior Advisor - Disability Research (0091661) to work on meaningful projects to improve disability inclusion at the University of Sydney. This role requires, preferably lived experience or disability, or significant understanding of the impact of disability, including experience in working in collaborative ways alongside people with disability.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships with people with disability and within the disability sector
  • work collaboratively to develop a research-focused event which promotes collaboration with researchers with lived experience
  • utilise your research skills, including in developing literature reviews, to create meaningful reports and support the development of Indigenous disability research.

About you

To be successful in this role, you have:

  • a lived experience of any type of disability, or a close understanding of what it is like to live with disability
  • the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work
  • demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise work, sometimes under pressure, with competing priorities and sometimes limited supervision
  • strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate efficiently with a wide range of stakeholders
  • developing knowledge of the context of competitive grant application processes and scheme expectations.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
