The Security and Community Safety team at the University of Northampton provide support to students and staff 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year through a highly visible, friendly, and proactive provision across the estate.

If you have great customer service and want to explore a career in this field, we will cover the training and licence costs for the successful candidate, however please note repayment of this would be required if you leave before the end of your probationary period, or at least a percentage of that cost dependent on the length of their successful probationary completion.

You will be working a 12 hour, 4 on 4 off, days and nights shift pattern, over an averaged 42 hours a week. Full training will be provided. You will be primarily based at the new Waterside campus, however you may be required to work at any of our sites as requested. 

About you

We are looking for someone keen to learn new areas and help build upon our professional reputation of security and community safety - leading the way today, for a safer tomorrow.

Working in the higher education sector, we are looking for excellent customer service and communications skills, along with a  flexible and positive approach to a situation.

Security experience would be desirable but not essential as full training will be given to the successful candidates during your employment. Ideally we are looking for excellent customer service skills.

We will also offer training for SIA Door supervisor licence, SIA CCTV Operative Licence and First Aid training (including major bleeds and level 1 water rescue) to the right candidate who is looking for a career in Security.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • SIA door supervisor licence (or to be obtained during probation period)
  • SIA CCTV Operative Licence (or to be obtained during probation period)
  • First Aid at Work Certificate (or to be obtained during probation period)

Department

Whilst fulfilling the usual remit of a Security and Community Safety Officer, this post has a focus on the student experience, customer service and support whether studying, working or part of the community in accommodation.

Being a front-line position, good customer service is key to helping the areas across the estate and a flexible approach to working at alternate sites.

Duties include: site access, evidence retrieval, working closely with the residential life team to ensure safety across the varied areas, the patrolling of all sites and ensuring safety across the estate.

Working with the Campus Police team, you will be given the opportunity to gain and enhance skills to be able to achieve a high standard of community safety, whilst building upon your training portfolio through scenario exercises such as water rescue, fire investigations and first aid response.

The department is a subsidiary of the University of Northampton, with a layered management team, allowing you a chance to build upon your position and get the most out of your experience here at the University of Northampton.
