Job summary

The Department of Immunology and Inflammation is seeking an exceptional administrator for the role of Section Manager.  This is an exciting opportunity to gain valuable experience of a broad range of administrative processes at Imperial College.


Duties and responsibilities

The Section Manager role is the primary point of contact for all academic and research staff within their group for administrative and operational issues. Therefore, you will be responsible for supporting research grant applications, ensuring that resources required for projects are costed accurately. You will also manage a portfolio of existing grants, where you will monitor and approve spend, and advise academics on the best use of funds in line with Imperial and funder policies.  In addition, you will support academics with completion and processing of HR paperwork. You will work closely with colleagues in the Joint Research Office, HR, Finance, and the Education Team in order to effectively resolve administrative issues.


Essential requirements

This varied and challenging post requires a strong and diverse skillset comprising excellent communication, financial management, organisation, and problem-solving skills. In addition, you will need the ability to develop effective working relationships with colleagues at all levels, and the ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure.  Prior knowledge of fEC, grant funding rules, and the College costing system (WorkTribe) is desirable but not essential, as comprehensive training will be provided.

Further information

This is a full-time, open-ended role, based at Imperial’s Hammersmith Campus. The successful candidate will be expected to be on Campus for 60% of the working week, in line with Imperial’s flexible working policy .
