The Department

The Student Experience and Retention Team sits at the heart of UWL; working collaboratively with colleagues across the university but quite specifically with the Directorate and the Student Union to ensure students have a positive experience throughout their journey.    

We play a key part in executing successful inductions and enrolments throughout the year. Provide early interventions and campaigns directly to students to support them to stay on track with their studies. The team also provide bespoke provision for our Visa Holder students.   

The Role  

The role will provide prospective Student Visa Holders/International Students with orientation and guidance on a variety of topics that are corelated with the student journey. The role will play a key part of the monitorisation of visa holder students regarding: their immigration and student status, location, travel plans, support needed, right to study check and expected date to be on campus via the tracking procedure. The role will also ensure students have attended the mandatory ‘international student responsibilities meeting’, attended induction and completed enrolment process.  

The International Student Experience Officer will coordinate the annual calendar of activities and events for international students, including the organisation and execution of the Prepare for Success at UWL course, delivered as a pre-arrival element for the student visa holders. The post holder will ensure students are well informed with relevant stakeholders notified of the student experience via an up-to-date communications strategy. The postholder will support with the content creation and dissemination of the monthly international student’s newsletter. 

The role will support the articulation of the university student's communications, website information's and updates, and keep abreast of issues affecting international students (e.g., immigration requirements, travel, Government and University regulations) and it would be responsible for advertising them to the students via emails and newsletters.  

The role will also be responsible for the Student Visa Experience email account, the student visa online spreadsheet and for the Fortnightly International Meetings Groups updates and paperwork. The role will also involve coordinating student experience facilitators. 

The postholder will work closely with the Recruitment, Admission, Data Records, Academic Administration, Planning and School Teams regarding student data to identify the international student cohorts requiring an induction or onboarding session, including the Extended Masters and Pre-Sessional Courses. The role will work closely together with the Student Experience Manger to ensure successful online and on campus induction delivery. The role will also participate in university-wide initiatives, campaigns, and surveys to monitor and improve the International Student Experience.  

The Person 

The position is ideal for an individual who thrives in a cross-service, multi-stakeholder environment covering a range of projects. The successful candidate will possess a natural disposition towards building relationships, have excellent organisational skills, a demonstrable customer service ethos, and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders in both written and verbal format including Mandarin.

The successful candidate will possess experience of working in administration and a good knowledge of the UK Higher Education sector. They will display a good level of attention to detail and possess the drive and determination to complete work to a high standard.
