You will have primary responsibility for managing Northumbria University’s Thin Film Laboratory and associated facilities, to ensure optimal utilisation for research and enterprise activities. The role requires ability to support specialist physical vapour deposition equipment such as electron beam and thermal evaporators and sputtering systems. You will have a focus on good working practices, health and safety and the ability to engage with researchers.

You will utilise your specialist knowledge and skills in vacuum systems and thin film deposition techniques to support academic activities and enable the department to successfully utilise and integrate materials fabrication into high quality academic research. Further responsibilities will include demonstration and training of these practices for small groups of academics and students, planning and utilisation, maintenance schedule and calibration. You will have extensive knowledge and expertise of vacuum systems and physical vapour deposition techniques for thin film fabrication including ceramics, semiconductors, corrosion coatings, resistor etc and relevant experience in developing new experiments and techniques based on the available facilities.
