About the team/job

We are looking for an enthusiastic Scientific Curator to join the Proteomics team. Our goal is to help researchers to make the most of public proteomics data!

The Proteomics team is responsible of the maintenance and further development of the PRIDE database (https://www.ebi.ac.uk/pride/ ) and related tools and resources. We are also leading ProteomeXchange (http://www.proteomexchange.org/ ), standardising public proteomics data submission and dissemination worldwide, in collaboration with partner resources in the USA, China and Japan.

Additionally, we heavily contribute to the activities of the Proteomics Standards Initiative (PSI, https://www.psidev.info/ ), and to the ELIXIR Proteomics Community. We also develop open data analysis pipelines for different proteomics experimental approaches, with the aim of reusing public proteomics datasets. Then, we reanalyse and disseminate public proteomics data from PRIDE into other EMBL-EBI resources such as Expression Atlas, Ensembl, MGnify, Open Targets and UniProt.

  • Provide support to PRIDE users and submitters, including the new resource for controlled-access proteomics data (currently under development);
  • Data curation of datasets for data re-analysis and data integration purposes;
  • Participation in outreach activities (e.g. social media and training);
  • Development of internal and external documentation, and scientific reporting.

You have
  • A university degree in life sciences as well as a broad knowledge of molecular biology and/or biochemistry;
  • Ph.D. or equivalent experience in a related field;
  • Proficient in command-line scripting;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Ability to:
    • work independently under time pressure;
    • collaborate with internal and external teams.

You might also have
  • Experience in:
    • bioinformatics services;

  • Knowledge of mass spectrometry-based proteomics;
  • Ability to query databases (e.g. PostgreSQL).
