The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) is an internationally renowned research institute with state-of-the-art Scientific Computing facilities.

Applications are invited for the post of Scientific Computing Officer. This role is to develop and provide support for the Linux servers, workstations and data storage systems that are essential to the overall research strategy of the Unit. You will have at least 3 years systems support/development experience in either a commercial, academic or research environment.

You will have responsibilities for helping develop, maintain and support the LMB High Performance Computing cluster and distributed scale-out storage systems. You would be responsible for managing a client environment encompassing Linux, Mac and PC systems, ensuring optimal performance whilst maintaining security. The majority of software used in this environment is open-source without commercial support, so the post holder must be have strong problem-solving skills.

You should be highly motivated, have strong creative, team working and communication skills, and ability to organise and prioritise work independently. The ability to relate to and communicate with non-technical users concerning problem resolution is also essential. You will have the opportunity to work as part of a small dynamic team implementing an array of the latest technologies. This is a chance to lead projects and to build skills on a large number of platforms and systems.
