Role Description

About the Role

To provide a professional management and financial accounting service to the Themes/Centres within the School that you are responsible for, ensuring that financial management is maintained to the highest standard to support the School in achieving its strategic aims. To provide strategic and appropriate management information and recommendations to the Directors of Theme and Heads of Centre to enable them to take strategic, forward looking financial decisions with respect to the monitoring, growth and development of their Themes.

You will support the Head of Finance and the embedded Finance team to become a recognised centre of excellence for budgeting, forecasting and financial information within SWEE and act as a contact point for financial queries.

About You

You will be a CCAB qualified accountant with experience of working in a large complex organisation and/or Higher Education Institution. In this role you will be responsible for overseeing the finances of the School Manufacturing Theme. This includes the production of budgets and forecasts, monitoring variance analysis and providing financial advice to the Director of Theme and the School Head of Finance.

The position would suit a hard-working, self-motivated, proactive and reliable person able to work to strict deadlines and take responsibility for their own workload.  Good interpersonal skills are essential as there will be frequent contact with customers and University staff.

You must be able to build a deep understanding of the school’s analytical, information and professional finance support requirements to provide an extremely high level of professional finance support. This will include a suite of finance reports tailored to the School’s needs that are timely, highly professional, immaculately presented and accurate. It will also include ad-hoc reports of the same standard and general finance leadership, partnership and advice. In the role you must engage and partner with the School’s academic community and be an indispensable partner for Budget holders and Principal Investigators.

Experience of working with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word is essential as the work is mainly computer based.  Previous experience of computerised accounts systems is also essential, significant experience of the UNIT4 Business World (Agresso) system would be desirable.
