S80870 Graduate Research Assistant / Postdoctoral Research Associate

Please note that as of 1st September 2022 our colleges and schools will be moving into a new structure which will consist of the following three Faculties – Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, (to include the Medical School),  Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy, and Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. 

Summary of the role

The post

The Faculty wishes to recruit a Graduate Research Assistant or a Postdoctoral Research Associate to support the work of Dr Gavin Buckingham. This Waterloo Foundation funded post is available 1st of November 2022 – 30th October 2023. The successful applicant will help develop and validate a virtual-reality diagnostic tool for developmental coordination disorder.  

The post will include the development of a VR environment with collection of kinematic variables in an appropriate game engine (e.g., Unity, Unreal, Godot), followed by a period of data collection with children.

About you

The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD (or be nearing completion) or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants will be able to have an understanding of experimental design, have experience with kinematic data, and be able to develop scenarios in an appropriate game engine (e.g., Unity, Unreal, Godot). Experience working with children would be beneficial, but not essential. The candidate will also need to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
