Classes may be taught on site at Ruskin College Oxford or offsite, at community centres or local NGOs and local travel within Oxfordshire may be required. Enhanced teaching and learning skills are required to enable learners to achieve their full potential.

The Role  

As a Community Learning Digital Skills tutor you will be responsible for:  

• Planning, preparing, and delivering active and engaging lessons. 
• Preparing teaching materials specific to the needs of the learners. 
• Creating a welcoming environment for students from a range of educational and cultural backgrounds.
• Checking and assessing students’ needs and adapting course content as required. 
• Maintaining a register of attendance and helping with on-site enrolment.
• Maintaining Individual Learner Plans and supporting learners with progression aims.
• Recording achievement and progression results on completion of the course.
• Supporting learners with opportunities for progression, including further education, vocational training, volunteering opportunities and work.
• Helping with occasional outreach activities. 
• Representing Ruskin College in the community.

The Person 

Ideally, you will have at least two years’ experience of teaching digital skills to adults in an FE or continuing education environment or equivalent commercial training experience relevant to the subject/s taught. 

You will have specialist subject knowledge relating to the course/s subject area. 

You will be able to plan an effective programme of learning, which will have clear learning aims and outcomes.

You will be able to use a range of learning resources, including ILT, which will motivate, engage, and support the learners.

You will be an experienced and effective communicator, with highly developed interpersonal skills.

You will be able to demonstrate that you can teach diverse groups of students and deal with students from a variety of educational and cultural backgrounds.   

We are looking for an individual who is committed to supporting the aims and aspirations of underrepresented groups within the community. 

In addition, we are looking for tutors who will develop the confidence of their students as well as their digital skills and will help them to progress on to further or higher education, volunteering opportunities in the community or into employment. 

Other  

As part of the Community Learning remit, we work with many community partners in Oxford city. You may be asked to work at a variety of community and stakeholder venues in Oxford in addition to Ruskin College.
