The School of Engineering and the Built Environment  is delighted to be able to offer a new post for a Robotics/Automation Technician. We are seeking to appoint an outstanding applicant to maintain the Schools facilities, classrooms, laboratories and workshops in order to effectively support students and staff within the School to deliver an excellent student and teaching experience.

The School of Engineering & the Built Environment (SEBE) offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that are widely recognised for their academic quality, innovation and close ties to the industries in which our graduates work. All of our programmes are accredited by the relevant professional body, including the IET, IHE, ICE, IStructE, IoM3, JBM and Energy Institute. We are currently undertaking a review of all of our activities, so now is a great time to join and help shape the future of our School.

The Role

The role holder is responsible for delivering a high quality technical service to support academic and research activities in the School of Engineering & the Built Environment, offering practical support and expert knowledge in an automation, robotics and software render context and will work closely with academic colleagues to support and advise undergraduate and postgraduate students on engineering courses.

Who We Are Looking For

Essential Requirements:

  • Degree or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Demonstrable skills in Industrial Robotics and Automation specifically Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) / Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) associated software and Pneumatics.
  • Experience of Microsoft Windows and the compatibility of various software applications e.g., Autodesk suite.
  • Strong evidence of team working and problems solving skills and the ability to make decisions in order to deliver high quality technical support

Desirable requirements:

  • Experience of MATLAB, SIMULINK, Arduino Microcontrollers, NI MyRIO, ‘C’ Programming and of working in a higher education environment.
