This role is part of the University’s Rights Lab. The role-holder will work dynamically within the Rights Lab’s Law and Policy programme on two grant-funded projects, including one focused on estimating the cost of ending modern slavery, and another focused on domestic legislation. Within the first, the role holder will conduct primary and secondary research to estimate the costs of eradicating forced labour in five countries. This will include desk research collecting secondary data on forced labour intervention costs in each country, as well as primary research with key governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental stakeholders. They will collect primary data through interviews, surveys, and workshops, synthesising evidence to develop an intervention costings framework for each country.

In the second, the role holder will contribute to the coding and analysis of domestic legislation in 193 UN Member States addressing modern slavery practices. In addition to applying an existing evaluation framework to legislative provisions, the role holder will contribute to the development of new participatory indicators. Building on this contribution to programme research projects, the role-holder will have the opportunity to shape a research agenda moving forward based in their area of expertise and in alignment with the programme’s research strategy.

This is a full-time (36.25 hours), fixed-term post starting as soon as possible and ending 31 July 2023. Arrangements for job share would be considered.
