Ideal Candidate:
We are looking for engaging, motivated and energetic baristas to join our team. The job will be exciting yet challenging at times. Experience as a barista is preferred but not essential as full training will be given. About the role:
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following behaviours:

  • Maintains a calm demeanour during periods of high volume or unusual events to keep store operating to standard and to set a positive example

Experience & Qualifications:
  • Hospitality: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality

Contracts are full-time, 35 hours per week

, available to work flexible hours/days that may include early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Salary: £11.96 per hour

Package includes 32 days holiday per year plus 8 bank holidays, as well as access to a range of staff discounts, as well as access to a range of staff discounts and development opportunities through accredited training.

Job Description

Main Duties

  • Preparing the café / restaurant, paying particular attention to product placement, stock rotation, ensuring standards and stock levels are maintained.
  • Maintaining a very high level of customer service and working with colleagues towards improving the level of standards and service ensuring merchandising and customer service practices are adhered to.
  • Placing daily food orders and checking and signing for all deliveries from suppliers and undertaking stock rotation.
  • Preparation of food and beverages, this includes serving and clearing tables, following set portion controls, making barista style drinks, preparation of food.
  • Cash handling, to ensure the safe keeping of cash floats and operating the cash register throughout the service.  Recording all transactions and balancing the float and takings at the end of service, in line with cash handling Policy and Procedures.
  • Meeting the necessary requirements of hygiene and food safety by monitoring cleaning standards, taking temperatures and recording findings and reporting any variations, in line with Cardiff University Food Safety Policy.
  • Participating in training appropriate to the position.
  • Undertake stock takes and ensuring control of waste and costs.
  • Assisting in the identification of equipment for repair and / or replacement and reporting.
  • Collection and return of outlet keys as required, maintaining a safe and secure working environment.

    Essential Criteria

  • You will have recent previous, customer focused experience, working as a barista or within a coffee shop /restaurant environment with cash handling and till operation.
  • You will have numeracy and literacy skills and evidence of ability to use email and internet-based applications.
  • A good understanding of café products; including knowledge on all aspects of coffee and sandwich/basic food production.
  • You will have experience of working within a team and ability to communicate and follow instruction and procedures.
  • You will be able to work without close supervision and have strong organisational skills.
  • Level 2 Food Safety or equivalent or willingness to undertake and maintain accreditation.
  • Desirable Criteria
  • You will be calm and be able to undertake multiple tasks and have good timekeeping.
  • Experience of stock control and purchasing.
  • Experience in merchandising and product placement.
  • Ability to speak/understand Welsh or willingness to learn.

    CAMPUS SERVICES INFORMATION

    Campus Services provides a range of professional support services to students, staff and visitors at Cardiff University.
    Residences manages accommodation places for approximately 5,500 students, both catered and self-catered.

    In terms of catering, there are cafés and restaurants conveniently located across university campuses, in addition to a delivered hospitality service.
    Cardiff University Sport exists to provide students and staff with a balanced, high quality and integrated sport service which meets the needs of a broad range of users.

    The Nursery offers facilities for children aged between 10 weeks and 5 years and is divided into sections appropriate to the ages and development of the children.
    Both residential and catering facilities are utilised for conferences and functions during the University’s vacation periods.  A purpose built and designed conference centre and conference facility is also available throughout the year.
    The Campus Services operation is supported by its own central administration functions covering the allocation of residences, human resource and quality, purchasing, facilities, finance, and general administration.
