About the role
Applications are invited for the post of Research Technician hosted in the Centre for Phage Research within the Department of Genetics and Genome Biology at the University of Leicester. Bacteriophages, or phages, are viruses that attack bacterial cells and offer the potential as new therapeutics as alternatives to antimicrobials. One bottleneck of translating phage therapy is producing them at large quantities, which will be needed to meet therapeutic demand. The aim of this project is to optimize phage production to 50 litres. The post holder will be performing specialised laboratory experiments to scale up amplification of phages and purify phages following amplification. They will also accurately record, present and discuss experimental data with the Project leads. |
About you
The successful applicant will have Technical or Scientific education to ONC or NVQ3 level and experience in phage research as well phage fermentation and purifying phages within a laboratory. The ideal candidate will also have good IT skills and have the ability to work flexibly and organise and prioritise there own workload. |
