The School of Chemistry is seeking to appoint an open ended fixed term funding for 2.5-years Research Technician. The appointment starts as soon as possible. The post-holder will contribute to research by applying pre-agreed analytical approaches to biogeochemically characterise modern and archived soils. The post holder will also provide technical support in the routine running of laboratory operations including the use of specialised equipment, risk assessment, safe handling, storage and waste disposal of chemicals.
The role holder will fully support research laboratory activities, ensuring that the laboratories are prepared for experimentation and are compliant with relevant Health and Safety and other legislative or policy requirements. They will carry out specialised techniques (including GC, GC-MS, LC-MS and other related techniques, as required) and train others in these and essential core functions.
You are a candidate with qualifications at GCSE or NVQ level 2/3 (or an equivalent level) in a relevant field, having practical work experience in an analytical chemistry laboratory. Basic knowledge of analytical environmental science or organic geochemistry is necessary. Your skills should include proficiency in operating and maintaining a variety of scientific instruments, along with data collection and interpretation.
