Updated: 3 months ago
Location: Liverpool, ENGLAND
Deadline: 20 Feb 2024

We are welcoming applications from enthusiastic and dedicated research technicians for this BBSRC funded project.

You will have the opportunity to work with global experts on poultry infectious diseases, epidemiology and statistics to investigate causes of drops in egg production/quality in free-range egg-laying flocks in the UK. The research is based at Leahurst Campus, Cheshire, but infrequently you may need to travel to the Liverpool campus.

You will be working alongside a PDRA on receiving field samples and data, organising appropriate storage of biological samples and data entry, undertaking day-to-day testing of samples for avian viruses and bacteria by conventional and molecular methods, and assaying sera for antibodies by ELISA. Partly to assist in data entry and analysis.  Working as a team, often you will need to assist the research team (including PhD students) with in Ovo, in vitro and in vivo studies. The laboratory services are well supported by a team of core technicians from the University of Liverpool professional services.

Training will be provided at all stages and in every aspect of the duties. This is an excellent opportunity to build on research technical experiences.

You should have a degree in biological sciences, preferably with work experience in microbiology, molecular and/or serology laboratories. Previous experience in poultry research environment would be beneficial, but not essential.

This post is available from March/April 2024 until 30 November 2026
