Job description

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated individual who is looking to further their career in research governance, ethics and integrity.

The Research Support Officer will provide support to the research governance, ethics, integrity, international regulations and research culture functions. The role holders’ main priorities for the 6 month period will be the development of policy, guidance and training related to good research practice, supporting with research misconduct investigations and supporting the College Research Ethics Committee ethics review processes. The role holder will also have the opportunity to work closely with the governance, international regulations and culture teams to align guidance, policy and training across the broader department.

As a member of the Research Governance, Ethics and Integrity (RGE&I) Department, the successful applicant will be proactive administrator with excellent organisational and communication skills and be able to prepare and disseminate any necessary communications to the research community in relation to our department’s responsibilities. The role holder will have, and continue to develop, a sound knowledge of the research governance, ethics and integrity landscapes nationally and locally and will be able to understand, and provide authoritative advice on, KCL policy and processes.

The role holder will provide operational support to the Director of Research Governance, Ethics and Integrity by leading on enquiries related to research practice and, under the direction of senior colleagues, take forward matters which must be formally investigate under the College’s Research Misconduct Procedure. The role holder will engage proactively with a range of stakeholders to resolve issues an identify and capitalise on opportunities for improvement.

The College now adopts a hybrid working model of home and on campus working. The role holder will be based at Lavington Street when on campus.

This post will be offered on  a fixed-term contract for 6 months.

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent.


Key responsibilities
  • Working with both the Director of Research Governance, Ethics and Integrity and Research Integrity Managers to support with effective professional services support for investigations carried out under the College’s procedure for investigating and resolving allegations of research misconduct.
  • To provide support to King’s researchers in relation to good research conduct in line with University and national policy and guidelines.
  • To support the implementation of policy and process changes across the RGE&I team, engaging with key stakeholders in faculties and directorates, as required
  • Supporting the College Research Ethics Committee review processes by undertaking office reviews and supporting with the development of reviewer guidance.
  • Work with the Research Integrity Managers to develop and deliver research integrity training, both face-to-face and online, which will support in embedding an improved research integrity culture in King’s.
  • Prepare and disseminate any necessary communications to the research community in relation to RGE&I matters, including research culture and international regulations. This will primarily be focused on website updates.
  • To act as the administrative lead within the Research Integrity department for all queries related to research integrity, triaging the research integrity inbox and taking responsibility for setting agendas and taking notes of actions for local team meetings
  • To take the lead on the development of online training modules across all functions ensuring alignment across the department and engagement from relevant stakeholders as required.
  • To take the lead on the development of office standard operating procedures ensuring that local processes are consistent and appropriately documented.

Skills, knowledge and experience

Essential criteria

  • Educated to degree level or a minimum of 2 years relevant administrative experience
  • Experience of supporting with or leading on investigation and/or review processes related to research conduct.
  • Demonstrable understanding of national policy and legislation related to good research practice
  • Demonstrable experience of providing clear and concise advice/guidance.
  • Experience of working independently and showing initiative.
  • Experience of developing and delivering presentations/training.
  • Experience of the development and implementation of policies.
  • Experience/understanding of providing support to Committees and working groups.
  • Experience of website development.
  • Desirable criteria

  • Experience of use of generative AI.
  • Experience of working directly with funding bodies/working knowledge of UK funding body guidance.
