A newly internal Research Culture funded Towards Equitable Partnership with Global South Research Partners(TEPSO) project aims to develop university-level pragmatic interventions to reduce the impact of visa and passport inequities and promote equitable budget allocations for research collaborations involving the Global South.

The TEPSO project is looking to recruit a University postgraduate student (all masters and PhD in any subject area) as a Research Support Assistant. The role with support the Project Lead and a project Advisory Panel in implementing the project.

All students should ensure that they comply with University regulations on paid work and visa requirements.  PhD students will need to discuss this opportunity with their supervisors in advance of applying (for PhD regulations, see 4.6.1 Student entitlements and responsibilities | Academic Quality and Policy Office | University of Bristol

  • Assist in setting up an online survey to assess awareness and perceptions of visa and passport inequities among UoB staff/Global South collaborators.
  • Undertake 10-12 semi-structured interviews either virtually or in person to explore experiences of visa and passport inequities among UoB staff or Global South collaborators.
  • Assist in document analysis of successful and unsuccessful Global South-North collaborative research grants.
  • Assist in analysis of online survey, interview, and document analysis data.
  • Organising intervention co-creation workshops/focus group discussions.
  • Support the development/refinement of the intervention based on the co-creation exercise.
  • Have working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook email and calendar.
  • Have sound numeracy skills
  • Proven ability to work well both independently and as part of a team
  • Experience of taking ownership of problems
  • Planning and organisation skills, including prioritising own workload
  • Familiarity with UK visa application process for residents in Global South
  • Experience of setting up online surveys or conducting semi-structured interviews

Contract type: Fixed term until 31/07/2024

Work pattern: Part time 

Grade: H

Salary: £32,982 to £37009 per annum

School/Unit: Bristol Medical School

Shift pattern: 10 hours per week
