An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Software Engineer to join the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology & Dynamics within the Faculty of Epidemiology and Population Health. The post-holder will sit within the Center of Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Diseases (CMMID) and work with world-leading experts in infectious diseases.

The Research Software Engineer will be responsible for developing, maintaining and deploying open-source dashboards of immunological data, building on existing R analysis pipelines. Once established, these dashboards will improve the accessibility of the tools which visualise, analyse and model immunological data, providing exciting insights into immunological characteristics of influenza, SARS-CoV-2 and vaccine-preventable neglected tropical diseases (NTD).

The post-holder will be expected to hold an MSc degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline and experience with the tools required to deploy R apps on Cloud servers (e.g. RShiny, shinyproxy, Nginx, Docker, Posit Connect etc.) and an understanding of the importance of good practices for producing reliable software and reproducible analyses.  A demonstrable interest in creating front-end UI/UX interfaces and knowledge of immunology and serological inference methods is desirable. The post is full-time, 1.0 FTE and fixed-term until 14 April 2025. The post is funded by the Wellcome Trust and is available from 15 April 2024.

The salary will be on the Professional Services salary scale Grade 6 in the range £43,947­–£49,908 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part-time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London.
