The Department of Education is seeking to appoint a part-time Research Officer for the Developing Language-Responsive Mathematics Classrooms research project funded by the Nuffield Foundation. This is a design-based collaborative research project that will identify content-specific linguistic challenges within the Key Stage 3 mathematics curriculum in England, and design pedagogic strategies and materials to support teachers and students to overcome these challenges.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing their own research and administrative activities, including collaborative workshops with mathematics teachers, and will adapt and develop research methodologies and materials focused on analysis of classroom data, including video analysis. They will act as a source of information to other members of the project and will represent the research group at external meetings and conferences.

The successful candidate will hold, or be close to completion of, a relevant PhD/DPhil, and/or have relevant experience as a mathematics teacher educator. They will possess sufficient specialist knowledge to work within the discipline and be able contribute ideas for new research projects and income generation. They will also have excellent communication skills, with the ability to write for publications and present proposals and results to senior researchers.
