Research Officer on British Voting Behaviour (part-time)

The Nuffield Politics Research Centre seeks to appoint a part-time Research Officer starting as soon as possible for a fixed period of one year to conduct quantitative research on the British Election Study (BES).

Working with the Oxford Co-Directors of the British Election Study at Nuffield College, Professor Jane Green (Director of the Nuffield Politics Research Centre), and Professor Geoffrey Evans (Official Fellow at Nuffield College), the Research Officer will conduct advanced data analysis of the British Election Study internet panel and also in-person post-election data. Dealing with large data-sets, they will provide multivariate data analysis and in particular panel data analysis, and will perform data linking of survey data to small area data. They will create tables and figures for publication, and will contribute to writing publications collaboratively.

Applicants should hold a first degree, and should hold or be working towards a doctorate in a relevant discipline. They should possess excellent data analysis skills (including working with complex panel data), data linking and data visualisation skills. Applicants should also have excellent oral and written communication skills and organisational skills, and the ability to draft text for publication. The ability to work collaboratively within a team is also essential. Previous experience of working with political survey data and the British Election Study internet panel, and a good working knowledge of British politics and elections would be an advantage.

The post is part time for 8 hours (0.23 FTE) per week, and fixed-term for one year. There will be an initial probationary period of three months. The salary will be in the range £29,176 to £34,804 per annum (pro rata).  Benefits include free meals whilst on duty, a season-ticket loan scheme, and contributory pension scheme.
