The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences are recruiting a Research Manager (maternity cover) for six months from January 1 2022.

The successful applicant will lead and manage the faculty’s Research Support team who provide advice and guidance to research degree students through all aspects of their programme from recruitment to completion, as well as to academic colleagues seeking to secure external research funding.

Reporting to the Head of Operations the post holder will lead the team to support delivery of the faculty’s research and knowledge exchange objectives through enabling policies and processes that adhere to university and sector-wide requirements. They should be organised, able to prioritise their own and their teams work and possess the necessary interpersonal skills to build collaborative and effective working relationships with administrative and academic colleagues inside and outside the faculty.

You should have: Experience of successfully supervising staff, an understanding of higher education systems and procedures for academic and student research support (which includes an understanding of UK research assessment frameworks), knowledge of the funding culture for the faculty, excellent verbal and written communication skills, an ability to work closely with, and influence academic staff.
