A laboratory technician position has become available to aid the running of the busy, expanding shared laboratory resource in the Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre Cell Phenotyping Hub, based at the Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre and at Addenbrooke's Hospital in E6. The BRC Cell Phenotyping Hub is a science technology platform providing services in cytomics in the Clinical School and across Cambridge Biomedical Campus. It is equipped with state-of-the-art-specialist cytomics equipment including flow cytometry equipment (over 30 instruments such as multiple sorters and analysers, magnetic separator, confocal microscopes, high content array scan and other kits.

We are looking for highly motivated individual to support multiple laboratory routine techniques for our phenotyping and cytomics sub-teams led by the Principal or Senior Technologist. The role will involve supporting covid-19 research and other studies and clinical work of national interest by providing extensive smooth and reliable specialist phenotyping, cell processing and sorting service to researchers on Campus across the Hub portfolio (flow sorting, magnetic cell separation, RNA isolation, cell processing, phenotyping and other molecular and cell biology techniques). The role holders will be supporting scientists working on various research projects, thereby making a significant contribution to translational biomedical research at University of Cambridge. In addition, the role holders will undertake tasks of supporting the operations through general laboratory, administrative, record keeping and maintenance duties as well as through a contribution to training and teaching activities and health and safety guidance.

The successful candidate must have experience in cytometry, imaging, high content/ throughput analysis) and in tissue culture and cell, immunological and molecular methods. They will have a qualification in a relevant scientific subject and have experience of scientific work in biomedical laboratory and be cleared for working with human blood and tissue or willing to obtain the clearance. They should have experience with cell processing for flow cytometry/cell phenotyping or comprehensive understanding of fundamentals of those technologies and ideally have been exposed to flow cytometry analysis and work in CL2 laboratories. Hands-on-experience of sorting is an advantage but full training will be given to a suitable candidates. The ability or aptitude to learn advanced technologies, operate complex biomedical equipment, trouble-shoot problems as well as team ability, flexible approach to work and readiness to work to the lab operational pattern are essential criteria. The lab operates late/night shifts for clinical scientific service according to rota (covering 8am -11 pm) and the post will require frequent late shift work and occasional weekend work.
