Contract type:Open ended
Working pattern: G7 100% FTE
Location:Sheffield – Sir Frederick Mapping Building, S1 3JD.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join us in the Research Support team at the University of Sheffield, and the Faculty of Engineering. We work closely with seven academic departments at the University, supporting all research operations across the Faculty, with our main function being supporting academics to submit high quality, competitive proposals to research and innovation funding bodies including UK Research and Innovation, Innovate UK and the EU Horizon Europe scheme. You will play a key role in the delivery of a high quality and timely research support service to academics and researchers in the Faculty, embedding a culture of operational excellence University-wide. You will work within a team of approximately 11 of our colleagues from the University, working closely with key academic and research staff to support research activities and grant proposal submissions within the Faculty of Engineering.
You will ideally have existing experience of working in a similar environment (pre-award research support), and you will provide leadership to the research hub operations to coordinate all interfaces of research support. You will communicate in a straight-forward and appropriate way with internal and external partners and will be willing to contribute to the development of policies and systems to deliver a coordinated and consistent research support network across the University. You will have a proactive approach and be able to deal with a volume of work with constantly evolving priorities in a timely and customer-friendly manner.
You will be encouraged to keep up to date with institutional, Faculty and funder priorities and policies, and work with academic staff locally to support the maintenance of external relationships. You will also be responsible for the supervision and development of the research support officer(s) in your Hub, coordinating all aspects of their activity either via a straight-line reporting or dotted-line/matrix reporting. While you will work in a team supporting a specific group of departments, there will also be opportunities to contribute to initiatives and work with colleagues from across the wider research support community at the University of Sheffield. Higher education experience is desirable but not crucial, and we welcome application from candidates with proven experience and transferable skills in other sectors too.
We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
