Research Services

INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY

We have two full-time fixed term posts available from 1st July 2022 for 12 months, until 30 June 2023 with secondments considered if approved by line management.

Summary of the roles

The Research Finance Section of Research Services is responsible for the administration of the University’s research grants and contracts.  These two fixed term posts have become available recently, with the post-holders responsible for portfolios of externally funded grants and contracts supporting grant holders within Colleges (and future Faculties) with all financial aspects of a project’s lifecycle. From bid stage through to the live grant administration and closure of the project, the posts are managing teams acting as stewards for external funding as well as ensuring the University adheres to their terms and conditions, along with the provision of financial management information internally and externally.

This includes the support of Academics with external funding bids, costing budgets, providing financial advice and guidance for all aspects of the portfolio and liaising with colleagues from across the various Directorates in support of the successful delivery of externally funded projects.  It also includes oversight of a team delivering the monitoring of budgets, reconciliation, variance analysis, preparation and inputting of journals and issuing invoices, and reporting to external funders sponsors together with other day to day tasks relevant to the portfolio.

The successful applicants will be able to work well under their own initiative, be able to prioritise tasks and have the ability to interpret the financial terms and conditions of externally funded grants and contracts applying University and recognised accounting conventions.  The successful applicant will also be able to lead a team and liaise with stakeholders at varying levels both internally and externally.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate a sound breadth of accounting knowledge, preferably in the area of externally funded projects.  Applicants should also be able to demonstrate leadership skills, proactivity and initiative, along with excellent spreadsheet, analytical and communication skills.
