Summary of the role
The Research Finance Section of Research Services is responsible for the financial administration of the University’s research grants and contracts. The post-holder will be working as part of the Environment, Science & Economy (ESE) Research Funder Cluster; supporting grant holders with financial administration activities relating to externally funded research and research-related projects; whilst also contributing to the success of the ESE Faculty’s research agenda. This includes: the setting up of projects; monitoring of budgets; reconciliation; variance analysis; preparation, inputting and approval of journals; issuing invoices; reporting to Funders; together with other day to day portfolio and team management tasks.
The successful applicant will have a good understanding of the technical aspects of research finances at both portfolio and Faculty level. They will be able to; work well under pressure and using their own initiative; be able to continually prioritise tasks; have the ability to interpret the financial terms and conditions of externally funded grants and contracts, applying University and recognised accounting conventions; and have previous experience in developing administrative and financial processes. The successful applicant will also be able to deal with stakeholders, staff and students at all levels within, and external to, the University. Applicants should be able to demonstrate proactivity, have excellent spreadsheet, analytical and communication skills, together with a breadth of accounting knowledge equivalent to the Association of Accounting Technician qualification.
