A Research Fellow position is available on a part-time basis (0.60FTE/22.5 hours), for a period of 18 months within the Centre for Rehabilitation. The purpose of the role is to project manage the ‘BeActive-HF’ research study. This study is funded by Heart Research UK and involves the evaluation of a theory and evidence-informed behavioural intervention (BeActive-HF) that has been codesigned in collaboration with people with heart failure and clinicians involved with their care. The aim of the intervention is to increase uptake and engagement with cardiac rehabilitation, and to increase physical activity levels of people with heart failure. The intervention will be evaluated across three NHS hospital Trusts in the north-east of England.

The successful applicant will work under the direct supervision of Leah Avery, Professor of Applied Health Psychology, and will be a member of a wider multidisciplinary research team of medical and health professionals, exercise scientists, behavioural scientists, and intervention developers. There is flexibility in the role in terms of hybrid working and working pattern to support work-life balance.

Given the nature of this research, ideally the post holder will have knowledge of health behaviour change theory, experience of intervention development and evaluation, qualitative and quantitative research methods, have experience of working with older adults with long-term health conditions, and have excellent project management/organisational skills. They will contribute towards future research funding applications, work towards high impact publications, and deliver presentations to professional and lay groups.

The position we are filling is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and a satisfactory DBS disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service is required as part of our clearance procedures.

Important Note for Student Visa holders: As you are restricted to working 20 hours per week during term time under the terms of your visa you are not eligible to apply for this position as the weekly hours are 22.2

Please be advised that due to the minimum salary thresholds imposed by the UKVI, this post will qualify for University sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa route.

If you are shortlisted, your interview it will take place via Microsoft Teams

Please note that the University may ask you to participate in a number of selection activities as part of the recruitment process for this vacancy.
