Moray House School of Education & Sport at the University of Edinburgh is inviting applications for a Research Fellow position to join our established Physical Activity for Health Research Centre (PAHRC; https://www.ed.ac.uk/education/rke/our-research/sport-related-research/pahrc ). PAHRC currently consists of 20 core members, and is directed by Professor Marie Murphy, Chair of Physical Activity for Health. Our mission in PAHRC is to be an internationally recognised centre of excellence for research, knowledge exchange and impact in the field of physical activity for health.

This post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working. 

The Opportunity:

The successful candidate will work within our PHIRST-Edinburgh Team funded by the NIHR (https://phirst.nihr.ac.uk/about-phirst/ ). We will be assigned Local Government public health interventions and be required to plan, conduct and report evaluations (usually within 12 months). The Research Fellow, working as part of an evaluation team, will lead or contribute to all stages of the evaluation. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the work of Local Authorities who are trying to improve health and reduce health inequalities by providing timely and accessible evaluations to inform the evidence base.

Your skills and attributes for success: 

  • PhD (or near completion) in relevant subject e.g., public health, social sciences.
  • Strong background in public health evaluation methods.
  • Possess high level of initiative, be detail oriented and ability to effectively work in a team setting.
  • Demonstrated quality of research performance. 
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly, orally and in writing.
  • The ability to undertake research that informs policy and practice
