Full time starting salary is normally in the range £34,980 to £44,263 with potential progression once in post to £46,974

Job Summary

The NHS England Maternity and Neonatal Programme (MNP) Team have developed a wide-ranging perinatal culture and leadership strategy, with a ‘flagship’ Perinatal Culture and Leadership Programme (PCLP) for Trusts in England. The term ‘perinatal’, encompasses maternity and neonatal services. The programme aims to improve the safety and quality of care delivered to women, birthing people and babies by enabling those with specific responsibility for safety in perinatal provider units to understand the relationship between leadership, safety improvement and safety culture to enable change.

We are seeking a highly motivated researcher with experience of ethnography and qualitative research methods, to work on the evaluation of the implementation and impact of the PCLP. Knowledge and experience of the UK health system, particularly maternity services, would be an advantage.

Person Specification

• First degree in area of specialism and a PhD (or close to completion) in a relevant topic area (desirable) 

With a background in qualitative methodologies and health services research, the post-holder will be responsible for the collection of ethnographic data in selected NHS maternity units (including observations, interviews, focus groups and document analysis) data analysis, interpretation and contributing to survey development, report writing, publication and preparation of other outputs. Advanced communication and organisational skills are essential and it is advantageous to have experience of working with a range of collaborators and to be able to work at pace. This post may require frequent travel and overnight stays as part of the field work.
