Research Fellow, Ventilation in Healthcare Facilities

Updated: 10 months ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 18 Jun 2023

Job Description

Ventilation in healthcare facilities (hospital wards and nursing homes) is a primary consideration. This project aims to evaluate ventilation strategies to mitigate airborne infection transmission risk and enhance indoor air quality in such environments. The scenarios include normal operation, haze episodes and pandemic situations.

Job Scope

  • Undertake a literature review and perform a gap analysis of the ventilation design for in-patient ward settings, based on both local (Singapore) and overseas’ design guidelines and code requirements for good indoor air quality and infection control for normal operation, haze mode and pandemic mode.
  • Undertake empirical measurements of ventilation performance for sites (hospital ward and nursing home) under different ventilation strategies – natural ventilation, mechanical ventilation and hybrid ventilation
  • Perform analysis and develop reports of the various ventilation strategies for infection mitigation and indoor air quality
  • Attend regular project meetings and develop minutes and follow-up action plans
  • Liaison with other collaborators and MOHH in the execution of the project, including renovation plans for the sites to accommodate various ventilation strategies
  • Undertake administrative support (finance, procurement, liaison, etc…) for the project
  • Job Requirements

    • A PhD degree. Candidates in the final stages of PhD studies (i.e. submitted thesis; pending oral defence) may also be considered.
    • Background in Fluid Dynamics
    • Familiar with Ventilation Strategies including Natural Ventilation, Mechanical Ventilation, and Hybrid ventilation
    • PhD or Post Doctoral study and experience in aerosol movement and methods of their measurement and modelling.
    • Documented familiarity in use of particle and/or tracer gas methodology and equipment for measurement of particle/aerosol movement in confined spaces [publications in journals would be a good evidence].
    • Knowledge and experience in CFD modelling
    • Project experience {at least at the PhD level] would be advantageous
