University of Nottingham Ningbo China is seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Geotechnical Engineering or Construction Materials
Your Responsibility
Your key responsibilities include:

  • To plan and conduct research independently using recognised approaches, methodologies and techniques within the research area.
  • To write up research work for publication in high quality journal (CAS Q1), contribute to the dissemination at national/international conferences, resulting in successful research outputs.
  • To identify opportunities and write bids for research grant applications. Prepare proposals and applications to both external and/or internal bodies for funding, contractual or accreditation purposes.
  • To utilise and contribute to organising research resources and facilities, laboratories and workshops as appropriate.
  • To supervise undergraduate and/or postgraduate students projects, fieldwork and placements, as appropriate.

About You

  • You should have a PhD in geotechnical engineering or construction materials or other related disciplines and the equivalent in professional qualifications and experience in research area.
  • You should have excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Chinese, including the ability to communicate with clarity on complex information.
  • You should have high analytical ability to analyse and illuminate data, interprets reports, evaluate and criticise texts and bring new insights.
  • You should have ability to creatively apply relevant research approaches, models, techniques and methods.
  • You should have ability to assess and organise resource requirements and deploy effectively.
  • You should have ability to build relationships and collaborate with others, both internally and externally.
  • You should have some practical experience of applying the specialist skills and approaches and techniques required for the role.
  • You should have experience in use of research methodologies and techniques to work within area.

Nottingham New Materials Institute (NMI), founded in 2015 by Nottingham in the UK and Ningbo Science and Technology Bureau, located in Gaoxin District of Ningbo, has developed into a key component of UNNC. The vision of NMI is to take full advantage of the international platform and discipline advantages of new materials to incubate and cultivate new materials enterprises, and to promote the rapid development of the new materials industry in Ningbo. It has four research centres, and approximately 20 staff and 50 PhD students. This post will contribute to the Centre for Granular Materials and Geotechnology. NMI has founded one provincial key laboratory and one municipal engineering centre.
