The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is a world-leading centre for research and postgraduate education in public and global health. 

We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow in Medical Statistics, Data Science or Health Economics to join the Department of Health Services Research and Policy.

The postholder will have excellent opportunities for collaboration and support from established collaborations within LSHTM including with leading statisticians and data scientists through the new school Centre in Data and Statistical Science for Health (DASH), and health economists within the Global Health Economics Centre: Global Health Economics Centre | LSHTM .

The postholder will support three important studies. The first study is an MRC funded study examining advanced methods for establishing causal effects from routine data GtR (ukri.org) . The second study is funded by NIHR and evaluates ‘urgent’ versus ‘planned’ surgery for patients with common vascular conditions (ESORT-V), using large-scale routine data ESORT | LSHTM .The third study is an NIHR-funded platform trial that evaluates alternative thresholds for platelet infusion for critically-ill patients (T4P) ICNARC – About .

The postholder will work as part of existing teams in supporting all three studies. Reporting to the PI, Professor Richard Grieve, the postholder will handle large complex datasets, and use advanced quantitative methods to establish comparative effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of alterative interventions.  A postgraduate degree in a relevant topic, along with relevant experience of handling routine datasets, for example Hospital Episode Statistics (HES), and of undertaking advanced quantitative analyses for assessing comparative effectiveness are essential. A demonstrable interest in causal inference methods is desirable. 

This post is full-time and fixed term for two years. The post is funded by the NIHR and the MRC and is available to start on 01 May 2024. The salary will be on the Academic Pathways scale at Grade 6 in the range £43,947 - £49,908 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.   Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London.
