Overview of the Role
Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have a background in systematic reviewing and applied health research? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research-intensive Universities?
We are looking to appoint an outstanding Research Fellow with experience conducting and publishing systematic reviews to contribute to the research and teaching portfolio of the Academic Unit of Health Economics (AUHE), Leeds Institute of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine and Health. The post is available immediately and is an initial one year fixed term position in the first instance. However, AUHE has an excellent track record in securing the funding required to extend research post contracts.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a thriving health economics research team with a commitment to supporting and developing its members. We have a wide portfolio of funded research projects, supported by an excellent Information Specialist team. The initial project will focus on understanding the costs of cancer care, however, AUHE is an ideal environment in which to gain experience in a broad range of health economic methods and research topics allowing you to further develop your own areas of expertise and interests.
In this post you will be working with a national, multi-disciplinary team to deliver a scoping review and linked systematic reviews for a Cancer research UK funded project. These will identify what is currently known about the direct and indirect monetary costs of cancer care in the UK, across all ages of patients and malignant diagnoses. This includes understanding costs and productivity losses experienced by patients, families and informal carers, in addition to wider societal and economic costs within the UK. It will capture information about the factors that influence health service costs, such as, cancer stage, demographics and co-morbidities (including the mental health consequences of a cancer diagnosis). Beyond this, it will identify the gaps in current knowledge, consider the methodologies used to undertake these analyses, data sources required and their availability for future research.
You will be based within the Academic Unit of Health Economics but will work with researchers in the Leeds Institute of Health Sciences and the wider Faculty of Medicine and Health, as well as with other stakeholders such as staff in NHS Trusts and researchers from collaborating clinical and academic centres. You will have knowledge and experience delivering systematic reviews. A background in health economics, cancer care or epidemiology (particularly the use of real world data in healthcare research) is desirable to provide background knowledge.
To explore the posts further or for any queries you may have, please contact: Dr Katie Spencer (k.spencer @leeds.ac.uk ) or Judy Wright ([email protected] ).
