We are seeking a talented researcher with a background in psychology and/or psychometrics to join our world leading Pain Research Lab, Department of Psychology. You will work closely with senior researchers, clinicians and patient and public contributors to deliver high quality clinical research. You will facilitate the smooth running of BEACON, a study to develop and validate a questionnaire to assess breakthrough pain in children and young people with life limiting conditions. BEACON is funded by Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital Charity and is a collaborative project led by Southampton with colleagues in London, Oxford, Newcastle, Cardiff, Liverpool and Birmingham.  We are a dedicated team proud of our friendly, supportive culture, and reputation for high-quality research.

You will be a confident and independent researcher with a PhD* and good foundational knowledge in paediatric psychology and quantitative research. You will be able to demonstrate effective skills and experience in the appropriate selection of research design, data collection and analysis techniques (particularly quantitative methods), and in clear dissemination of findings in excellent quality written reports and publications. You will have good oral communication and presentation skills and meticulous attention to detail. 

You must have eligibility to work in the UK; any offer of employment will be subject to a satisfactory disclosure report from the Disclosure and Barring Service.  

*Applications will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon completion of PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
