Research Fellow (Stochastic Climate Downscaling)

Updated: over 1 year ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 04 Feb 2023

Job Description

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS) invites applications for one Research Fellow (Postdoc) position in Stochastic Climate Downscaling to begin in early 2023.

The project “Climate and Land-Use changes: Effects on nutrient inputs to Singapore reservoirs (CLUE)” has as overarching goal the quantification of how climate change affects the soil biogeochemistry and nutrient cycles in tropical soil and how this cascades in modified loads of nutrients to the reservoirs. Results will help to delineate mitigation strategies to preserve high standards of water quality. In particular, the project aims to: (1) shed light on soil-biogeochemical processes controlling the nutrient cycle and nutrient export from tropical soils, (2) downscale climate model projections for mid and end of the century at the station level and sub-daily resolution, (3) provide a budget of nutrient fluxes toward Singapore reservoirs in present and future conditions, and (4) to assess changes in nutrient load and reservoir water quality.
The candidate will be responsible for completing the scientific tasks of the project, leading and contributing to publications, and is expected to work closely with the other postdoctoral fellows that will be hired in the project. Besides contributing to the research activities of the project, the successful applicant is expected to support in a broader sense the research of the Ecohydrology group at NUS, thereby providing occasional support to graduate students (MSc and PhD).
Additional information about the position may be obtained by writing to A/Prof. Simone Fatichi ([email protected] ). Further information on the Department is available at: https://www.eng.nus.edu.sg/cee
