We have an exciting opportunity for a mixed-method researcher to join the behavioural science group within one of the UK’s leading primary care research centres at the University of Southampton. You will have opportunity to train in the internationally endorsed Person-Based Approach to intervention development alongside a vibrant community of digital intervention researchers.

Constipation affects 1 in 3 children in the UK, yet evidence suggests that provision of self-management support for parents/carers is sub-optimal. The successful candidate will lead an online survey and semi-structured interviews to examine parent/carer’s experiences and contribute to a planned programme of research aiming to improve support provision.

The research will be carried out under the supervision of Dr Leanne Morrison, Dr Ingrid Muller and Professors Miriam Santer and Hazel Everitt. You will work alongside patient and public contributors, charities, and a consultant Paediatrician.

You will have strong qualitative research experience and in-depth understanding of health psychology or a closely related field. Your knowledge and experience will usually have been gained through a relevant MSc or PhD, but may also have been achieved via other research experience (in primary care or other health-care related research) normally supported by a relevant postgraduate degree. You will have demonstrated your ability to work independently and efficiently in a research context, and will have excellent written English skills with meticulous attention to detail. Previous experience using social media to recruit a diverse range of participants would be an advantage.

The successful applicant will join our global top 100 university with an international reputation for research, teaching and enterprise. The Primary Care Research Centre is a member of the NIHR School for Primary Care Research, a national collaboration that provides unique opportunities for networking, training, and multicentre collaborations. In REF 2021, 94% of our research was considered ‘internationally excellent’ or ‘world leading’.

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.   Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

You are welcome to contact Dr Leanne Morrison [email protected] for an informational discussion.

This is position is part time (0.8FTE)
