Research Assistant Salary: Grade R1 from £35,490 to £37,488 inclusive of London Weighting with potential to progress to £38,532 per annum inclusive of London Weighting through sustained exceptional contribution.

Research Fellow Salary: Grade R1 from £39,607 to £44,240 inclusive of London Weighting with potential to progress to £46,771 per annum inclusive of London Weighting through sustained exceptional contribution.

The Additive Manufacturing and 4D Printing Research Group is looking to recruit a Research Fellow / Research Assistant in Computer Aided Design. The post-holder is expected to contribute to activities including but not limited to tasks associated with:

  • Developing training materials and leading instructional sessions.
  • Assisting in the coordination and support of training workshops and events.
  • Gathering data through surveys and other data collection methods.
  • Designing, developing, and improving computer-aided design components.
  • Performing mechanical and thermal analysis using Finite Element Analysis (FEA), incorporating techniques like topological optimization, generative design, and Design for Additive Manufacturing.
  • Creating geometric test piece designs using parametric solid modelling.
  • Utilising sustainability tools such as Lifecycle Assessment and Eco-auditing.
  • Conducting Design of Experiments through simulation and modelling methods.
  • Assisting in project management tasks such as report generation, document management, meeting facilitation, and participation in local and international meetings.
  • Administrative duties include report writing, paper preparation, and proposal/grant writing.
  • Presenting work through journal publications and conference presentations.

This is an 8-month fixed-term, full-time post commencing from April 2024, with potential for the contract to be extended. The exact start date and working pattern is flexible and can be negotiated with the Line Manager. The successful applicant is expected to have a high level of initiative and an ability to work both collaboratively and independently. The candidate is expected to be able to travel locally and nationally. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required and the ability to quickly adapt to a multinational environment is advantageous. The ideal candidate will need to be confident in the use of various CAD software packages (for example Solidworks, Fusion360, Ansys, etc.). Knowledge of Additive Manufacturing and Sustainability is essential for this role. Please refer to the post-description for the full post-profile.
