Research Fellow (KTP Associate) Formulation and Process Development Scientist

This role is an exciting opportunity for candidates holding a PhD in Pharmaceutics or a related discipline. The candidate should have a strong understanding of pharmaceutical formulations and process development. Experience in characterisation of excipients, formulation of particulate systems, analytical method development, in-vitro cell line permeability assessment, manufacturing processes such as mixing and freeze drying, process design and optimisation would be an advantage.

The objective of this KTP project is to develop a formulation roadmap and integrated manufacturing process for the Zydis technology platform and to define how processing parameters influence the formulation of different drugs with poor bioavailability characteristics.

Candidate Profile: PhD in Pharmaceutics or a related discipline.

Key skills/ experience required include:

  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical formulations and process development.
  • Experience in characterisation of excipients, formulation of particulate systems, analytical method development, in-vitro cell line permeability assessment (desirable), manufacturing processes such as mixing and freeze drying, process design and optimisation would be an advantage.
  • Good experimental skills to contribute to the planning of research projects and aptitude to learn new techniques.
  • Prior experience of working within the pharmaceutical industry or in research to demonstrate an understanding of the challenges and benefits of collaborative projects.
  • Demonstratable project management skills to manage their time, workload, budget and deadlines and have a proactive approach to ensure success of the project. Or willingness to learn PM practices.

Personal attributes:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to liaise with all stakeholders, including potential customers and the steering group.
  • Be able to communicate effectively to work in a scientific and commercial environment with staff at all levels.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary collaborative team with the capacity to take the lead role in order to deliver research objectives and milestones on time.
  • Proactive attitude to cope with the typical day-to-day challenges.
  • Work independently on own initiative as and when required.
  • Self-motivated and confident with good persuasion and negotiation skills. 
  • Fit in with the organisational culture and present a positive image of the company to clients.

Location: You will be based predominantly at Catalent Pharma Solutions in Swindon but will undertake laboratory work at Aston University in central Birmingham. Some travel to key clients may also be required.
