The Institute for Communication Systems (ICS) home of the 5G/6G Innovation Centre (5G/6GIC) is looking to recruit a Research Rellow in Semantic Communication and Sensing. Established in 2012, 5GIC is the world’s first dedicated centre in researching end-to-end aspects of 5G and works closely with national and international leading academic institutes and key industrial partners. In November 2020, 6GIC was officially launched with parallel research undertaken in both 5G+ and 6G for 2030+.

ICS is the largest academic research institute in Europe specialising in all aspects of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies). It is home to over 200 researchers with expertise in all communication and broadcasting systems and has developed the best in class large scale testbeds for research and innovation and enjoys the state-of-the-art lab and computing facilities.

The post-holder will;

• Work on “TUDOR” (Towards Ubiquitous 3D Open Resilient Network), an exciting new research project aiming to solve many societal, environmental and economic grand challenges such as the digital divide and energy efficiency by advanced technology innovations in open telecommunications systems.
• Conduct fundamental research in signal processing for wireless communications. Specifically, it includes (but not limited to): (distributed) massive-MIMO or cell-free MIMO based device-free localisation and/or integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) for 6G. 

The research will be focused on the fundamental theory and algorithm development of (distributed) massive-MIMO or cell-free MIMO based device-free localisation and/or integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) for 6G. The project will provide rich research collaboration opportunities with world-leading research institutes, industry, and regulation bodies. The research will be carried out using a combination of mathematical modelling, signal processing, optimisation, machine learning, and computer simulations.

We are looking for;

• A PhD with good quality publications in the field.
• As well as knowledge of any of the following; statistical signal processing, waveform design, device-free localisation, MIMO signal transmission and reception, computer simulations or machine learning programming. 
• Ability to work in a team of researchers.
