Are you a skilled modeller, statistician or remote sensing expert with an interest in crop-climate modelling and analysis for the global south? Can you work in a multi-disciplinary team towards on-the-ground outcomes for farmer livelihoods?
We seek a motivated and versatile post-doctoral researcher to work with us to develop and implement a metric-based approach to innovation in sustainability, resilience and adaptation for cropping systems in Western Kenya. You will be working with colleagues in Leeds as well as in the Climate Resilience and Excellence in Agronomy initiatives of the CGIAR, which is a global research partnership for a food-secure future dedicated to transforming food, land, and water systems in a climate crisis.
We envisage two crop-climate methodologies being used in the project. The first is crop-climate models, such as the GLAM family of models, and the associated integrated Future Estimator for Emissions and Diets (iFEED) developed and used at Leeds. The second draws on existing datasets of agronomic innovations and associated indicators of sustainability and resilience in order to design and use metrics for the performance of innovations. These metrics will then be used with remotely-sensed data and crop-climate model projections in order to provide an evidence base for the use of these technologies in producing development outcomes in Kenya.
You will work within the collegiate and dynamic environment of the Climate Impacts group, which is part of the School of Earth and Environment, and the cross-campus Priestley International Centre for Climate, and the Global Food and Environment Institute. Find out more about these in the Additional Information section below.
