Are you a skilled modeller, statistician or remote sensing expert with an interest in crop-climate modelling and analysis for the global south? Can you work in a multi-disciplinary team towards on-the-ground outcomes for farmer livelihoods? 

We seek a motivated and versatile post-doctoral researcher to work with us to develop and implement a metric-based approach to innovation in sustainability, resilience and adaptation for cropping systems in Western Kenya. You will be working with colleagues in Leeds as well as in the Climate Resilience and Excellence in Agronomy initiatives of the CGIAR, which is a global research partnership for a food-secure future dedicated to transforming food, land, and water systems in a climate crisis.

Skills/Qualifications

As a Research Fellow you will have:

• A PhD or near completion (i.e. the initial thesis needs to have been handed in at the point of application) agricultural remote sensing, crop / climate / environmental modelling, agronomy, crop science or a closely allied quantitative discipline;

• A strong background in agricultural remote sensing, crop-climate modelling, or statistics, or a closely related topic in environment / ecology, including ability to use and manipulate associated datasets;

Experience in sourcing and using remotely-sensed data;

• Experience in the development of agricultural metrics related to productivity, sustainability, adaptation, resilience; or crop, environmental, ecological, or climate models;

• Basic understanding of plant science, in terms of crop growth and developmental processes;

• Strong programming skills; • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills;

• Demonstrated experience of conducting research and ability to lead and deliver on key research tasks by agreed deadlines;

• Ability to work flexibly, both as part of a team and independently, with proven ability to manage competing demands effectively, responsibly and without close support;

• A strong commitment to your own continuous professional development.
