Background
The post is funded by a Wellcome Trust award to Professor Matthew Broome (University of Birmingham) and Professor Giovanni Stanghellini (University of Chieti), to create an international exchange programme to develop academics in interdisciplinary approaches, and to renew phenomenological psychopathology with insights from related disciplines.
Summary of Role
• The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will manage the programme with Stanghellini and Broome
• Lead on important scholarly outputs from the group
• Facilitate the events of the programme with the leads and network manager
• Will work with leads towards future funding applications
Main Duties / Responsibilities
The responsibilities may include some but not all of the responsibilities outlined below.
• Support Broome and Stanghellini in managing the Award and running the programme
• Contribute to writing bids for research funding
• Help organise the events of the programme (including conferences, a mentorship programme, exchange fellowships, workshops and knowledge exchange events, small grant and writing retreat awards, sandpit events, and a translation fund).
• Apply knowledge in a way which develops new intellectual understanding and advances phenomenological psychopathology
• Disseminate research findings for publication, research seminars etc
• Potentially supervise students on research-related work and provide guidance to PhD students where appropriate to the discipline. Possibility of teaching on MSc Mental Health.
• Undertake management/administration arising from research
• Contribute to Departmental/School research-related activities and research-related administration
• Present research outputs, including drafting academic publications or parts thereof, for example at seminars and as posters
• Provide guidance, as required, to support staff and any students who may be assisting with the research
• Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines

Person Specification
• First degree in philosophy or related subject and a higher degree relevant to research area (ideally 20th century European/continental philosophy or philosophy of psychiatry)
• High level analytical capability
• Ability to communicate complex information clearly
• Fluency in areas mental health and psychopathology,
• Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
• Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
• Contribute to the planning and organising of the research programme and/or specific research project
• Co-ordinate own work with others to avoid conflict or duplication of effort
• Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure in day to day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly
