An exciting opportunity has arisen to join NIHR Southampton Biomedical Research Centre, University of Southampton and University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. The successful applicant will work within the University’s MRC Lifecourse Epidemiology Centre (MRC LEC: Director: Professor Nicholas Harvey).

The MRC LEC, University of Southampton, is at the international forefront of musculoskeletal epidemiology. It has an internationally competitive track record in both observational and intervention studies, and translation to policy. 

The successful applicant will be responsible for research in accordance with the agreed objectives of the current NIHR Southampton Biomedical Research Centre, focussing on the development of new approaches to primary fracture prevention in older age under the supervision of Dr Elizabeth Curtis, Professor Kate Ward and Professor Nicholas Harvey. They will also work on the setup of a hospital-based registry and research platform for patients referred to the Osteoporosis Centre for bone density scanning. The successful applicant will undertake leadership, management and engagement activities suitable to the role.

The successful application should be available to participate in fieldwork as required by the specified research project and attend national and international conferences for the purpose of disseminating research results.

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

This post is offered on a full time, fixed term basis, starting as soon as possible. The appointment is for initially up to 2 years, with the second year conditional on satisfactory performance in year one. Extension beyond 2 years may be possible dependent upon availability of further funding and satisfactory performance.
