About the Role
This post will support the delivery of contract research on autonomous systems and more specifically on unmanned aerial systems within the Centre for Autonomous and Cyber-Physical Systems. You will be expected to deliver high quality publications and knowledge dissemination via effective written and oral communication skills. The appointed staff is expected to work closely with all research teams of the Centre, the Aerospace Integration Research Centre and Digital Aviation Research and Technology Centre.
In this role you will develop guidance/control/estimation solutions for unmanned aerial systems. It is expected that efficient operations of unmanned aerial systems will make a significant and revolutionary social, economic, and research impact. To enhance the level of autonomy of these systems, it is widely accepted that the guidance/control/estimation functionalities are essential. Therefore, the focus of the research is to develop different guidance/control/estimation capabilities of autonomous systems, analyse their performance and safety measures, and validate them through flight tests.
About You
This role requires knowledge and deep understanding of guidance/control/ estimation theories, and experience on developing and testing relevant algorithms. Knowledge and experience on emerging technologies such as machine learning would be desirable for this role. This role would suit an individual with excellent communication skills, high degree of personal motivation, and the ability to independently work. You will hold a PhD level degree (or close to completion) in a guidance/control/estimation related subject, e.g., aerospace engineering, electronic engineering, or related fields.
